No Kings protest

14Jun2025

Glenside, about 14 miles North of central Philadelphia, PA. This was one of many satellite protests that occurred before the big one in the city.

Trump tried to broker a ceasefire between Ukraine & Russia. Ukraine agreed to it, Russia was, in theory, friendly to Trump, but Putin made such extreme demands and showed so little in the way of cooperation, it was clear that Trump could expect nothing from them. In a very similar case,

“Trump said that he was ‘not happy’ that Israel fired on targets in Iran after he had announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between the two nations.”

Yeah, a “ceasefire” that at least one of the parties has not agreed to isn’t worth a whole lot. After having bombed Iran’s nuclear sites (apparently just because it seemed like it was a popular thing to do), Trump then tried to make peace between the combatants.

The pro-Trump Xitter commenter Catturd put out a whole line of laughing emojis because he just couldn’t BELIEVE that the legacy press (in the old days, we called them the “mainstream media”) was putting out what he felt was an absurd  proposition, that bombers had dropped 15-ton bombs on Iran’s nuclear facilities and hadn’t caused any damage!  Yeah, unless of course, the bombs landed on a really deep pile of rocks and reinforced concrete. Then, well, yeah, it might not have caused any damage to anything important.

And yes, Trump appears to be really irritated that the strike on Iran was not a one-and-done. Of course, wars have never been predictable. In August 2003, there were hints that the “victory” in Iraq wasn’t quite as final as the younger George Bush had hoped.  After the celebrations over the fall of Baghdad and the capture of Saddam Hussein, by about August, the guerrilla war was in full swing and the American public finally lost faith that Bush had it under control in early 2005.

The whole debate over the past several months concerning people sent to foreign countries to be imprisoned or worse has been over whether they should receive due process beforehand. That is, whether they should have their day in court to perhaps make their case as to whether or not they should be sent. The Supreme Court has ruled that no due process is necessary.

Heh! Cute sign!

From TPM:

Seven partners at Willkie Farr & Gallagher, one of the law firms that struck a deal with President Trump, are leaving to join the Cooley law firm, which represented Jenner & Block in its successful challenge of the Trump executive order that targeted it.

What’s the answer? How does one go from being a Trump supporter to being a Trump opponent? Simple. follow the lead of Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California. He tried at first to make nice with MAGA people such as Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon. When he came under attack by President Trump, he simply tossed that idea out the window and went into full opposition. Liberals gladly welcomed him back and have given him every positive encouragement to stick with his regained position. So the lesson to the erring law firms is: Just do it. Just say “We can’t do this any more” and switch over to the opposition.

Your heroic narrator.

Further on that: 75 Democratic Representatives were in favor of ICE raids. Now that ICE is making itself wildly unpopular, my advice is…switch! Just stop supporting ICE, start supporting any fellow Democrats who are vocally opposed to ICE.  Simple!

Philadelphia. Film – marching

Looked at a few pieces about why Trump left the G7 meeting a day early, but found garbled explanations, such as he wanted to attend to the Israel-Iran conflict, but he had the opportunity to sign a joint statement urging a deescalation between the two and didn’t sign it. Rachel Maddow delivers a convincing explanation, saying he felt
“sad” and “small” at the meeting and left for that reason.

NATO has decided to classify military transfers to Ukraine as

“Russia is actively trying to trace how, what, and when we deliver military aid to Ukraine. NATO must respond accordingly.”

Thought I saw a post on how Hungary, Slovenia and the US were all on the list to not get access to lists of what Ukraine was getting. Makes sense, as Trump and Putin are such good buddies, but I can’t find it anymore.

Trump proves himself utterly useless as an ally. He’s promised several times to sanction Russia for its attacks on Ukraine. He has followed up zero times, thereby proving that the acronym TACO is correct (Trump Always Chickens Out). Is he useful to his good buddy Putin? Ah, now there he’s proven his value!

This was pretty hopeful considering Trump’s desire to use a GBU-57 or “Bunker Buster” bomb to take out Iran’s nuclear production facilities. “Citing chance of negotiations, Trump says he’ll make decision ‘within the next two weeks’” Two weeks is his ususl time period that generally means “some time off in the hazy future” or just plain “never.” Even CNN has caught on to Trump’s “two weeks” deadlines. But hey, the bombing of Iran was playing really well on Fox News, so hey!

The WaPo had a weird headline: “Navigating Iran crisis, Trump relies on experience over star power.” But then it mentions Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who are neither  “stars” in the subject matter that their agencies are involved in, nor are they “experienced.” So it’s very unclear who the headline refers to. In any event, both President Trump and Vice-President Vance deny that either one has been sidelined.

Another bizarre headline from WaPo: “For Democrats, handcuffs are the latest symbol of resistance to Trump.” Actually, they’re the latest sign that ICE is going well beyond the law and their mandate. It means that ICE is improperly refusing to permit Congresspeople  to inspect their facilities. The headline is especially revolting as a Minnesota State Representative and her husband were recently gunned down in their home.

Not sure Trump, Musk, DOGE, etc., are out to kill people. It might have been hurting the conscience of Secretary of State Marco Rubio to admit that the shutdown of USAID killed people, but that has indeed happened. The narrator starts off with a story abut how the mother of a seven-year old rushed him to the US-funded clinic after he developed sickle-cell anemia, but the clinic has been padlocked as they had run out of funds.
Many other similar stories mean that about 300k people have died.
There’s a bit of speculation and projection involved in the 300k figure. Of course Musk and other right-wingers are furious at charge. But there’s no serious doubt that, at the very least, a great many tens of thousands have perished due to the cut-off of aid.
