Trip to Toronto

August 7-10, 2025

Trip to Toronto was very pleasant and well worth taking! I spent most of the time just moving around in the city (LOTS of walking) using both the streetcars and the subway.

About the only officially tourist thing I did was the harbor tour. A small craft puttered around Toronto Harbor for an hour while our hostess told us all about it. In the 1970s, the harbor had a lot of eyesores like factories. They decided to clean it up and to make it attractive. They did a great job of that!

In terms of ethnicity, the city seems to be very highly mixed, saw lots of Indians, Arabs, Blacks, etc.

Saw lots and LOTS of watercraft! All kinds of yachts and motorboats. While we sailed around, saw plenty of canoes and kayaks. Didn’t see small sailboats, but would be surprised if they weren’t also present.

Harbor islands had plenty of wild areas. There was a busy ferry service getting people to and from the islands.
One thing I was very pleased by was that Canadians use currency more the way that Europe does than Americans do. If something cost $3 and something Canadian and I gave a merchant a $5 bill, they gave me just change as they make plentiful use of $1 and $2 coins! Much nicer than getting a $1 bill and change as I can close my wallet after giving the merchant my $5 bill!

Nice shoreline. Interestingly, Canadian Facebook doesn’t permit political comments! Sites like BlueSky are unaffected, but I wanted to tell all my usual buddies that I was alive and well and having a good time and had to find non-political posts to do so.

Plenty of big, modern buildings all along the shore. Very clean and pleasant city!
