Rally – Mondays @ McCormick’s

14Apr2025

At the weekly Mondays@McCormick’s rally.

Out of over 100 men deported to El Salvador on March 15th. one has come to the attention of the public, Kelmar Abrego Garcia. Is El Salvador refusing to return him to the US? The following statement made by Senator Chris Van Hollen casts serious doubt on that assertion. Senator Van Hollen said he spoke with El Salvador’s Vice-President:

“‘His answer was that the Trump administration is paying El Salvador, the government of El Salvador, to keep him at CECOT,’ Van Hollen said.’”

Which, hmm, sounds to me as though El Salvador wasn’t exactly refusing to turn over Abrego Garcia as much as they’ve not been formally requested by US officials to turn him over.

Ruling on the entire group of deportees, D.C. Chief Judge James Boasberg made it clear to the Trump Administration that simply moving people out of the country before courts can react does not mean that the Constitutional right to due process is rendered moot.

Judge Boasberg is now giving the Trump Administration every possible chance to voluntarily course-correct and to abide by the law. Trump and his people seem determined to get charged with criminal contempt because all they have to do is to affirm that they have Abrego Garcia in custody. There isn’t the slightest question they can do that. It’s just a matter of will they do it?

Unfortunately, the Trump Administration has decided on a scorched-earth approach, freely lying and smearing Abrego Garcia,

The Trump administration’s release of the documents come as part of its renewed push to portray Abrego Garcia, who has not been charged with or convicted of any crime, as a violent and dangerous criminal and a member of MS-13.

“Based on the sensationalism of many of the people in this room, you would
think we deported a candidate for Father of the Year,” White House press
secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday.

According to one of the Fox News hosts for The Five:

But the point is that this man has been living in this country. Out in public, meeting on an annual basis with his DHS caseworker. He goes in once a year. He talks to them. They know where he works. He’s an on-the-books worker. This is not somebody who is a gang banger.

Miriam Oppenhiemer, the Direct Actions Director at Peace, Justice, Sustainability, NOW! and a member of Refuse Fascism

Update: Senator Chris Van Hollen met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Abrego Garcia appeared to be in good shape. The Senator was not allowed to bring him home, in fact, the Trump Administration put out the story of Patty Morin, whose daughter was murdered by a member of the gang MS-13 and put that story alongside the story of Abrego Garcia, as though there was some sort of connection between the two stories. Although Morin’s story is a sad one, what is the relevance of her story to that of Abrego Garcia’s story? Nothing. The stories are being contrasted because Trump and his people want to distract from the severe Constitutional problems with the deportation of Abrego Garcia. The problem with his story is that, if it legally stands, any
person residing in the United States can be deported at will, whenever the president feels like it. Morin’s story is a sad one but is not as legally significant. The piece referred to includes another truly disgusting post by Trump.

Video of demo.

Hoo boy! Trump sure is mad here!

“Garcia has been found by two separate courts to be of the violent, killer gang MS-13…”

No, he hasn’t. He’s been accused by an unknown informant and never charged with anything or convicted.

Are people calling Abrego Garcia “sweet”? Maybe his family thinks so, irrelevant in any case. Is he innocent? That’s what “due process” is ALL about!
