8-10 May 2026

Thought about where I had been in the Bos-Wash corridor (tourist places I can drive to) and recalled that I had been to Rhode Island many times, but that was usually just taking the highway to and from other areas and recalled that Newport was said to be a nice place.

Got up there last weekend and strolled around. Tried twice to get a harbor tour by boat, but was a few minutes late the first time, rescheduled for later, but that was cancelled due to fog and low visibility. Hmm, the city has a Folk Festival July 24-26, so maybe I’ll try and make that.

These are walking around downtown on the harbor.

It’s tough to store a sailboat for the winter as the keel and rudder are very much part of the boat and can’t just be taken off.

Busy marina.

Plenty of shopping. Not into buying a whole lot myself, but I DID find a tea and spice shop! Loaded up on black teas. Saleslady gave me detailed instructions on how to get maximum flavor from them.

Typical sidewalk in the downtown there. Parking was fairly tough.

Overlooking the harbor near the “40 Steps” staircase.

Somewhat chilly.

The “40 Steps.” Guess you could have swum in the harbor if you REALLY wanted to! Good time! My hotel was comfortable and very convenient to downtown.
